No less than Benjie Paras, the 1989 PBA most valuable player and top rookie, is suiting up for the Total-Filoil-Flying V Homegrown Cup when it kicks off tomorrow at the San Juan gym.

Paras would be playing for the alumni all-stars of University of the Philippines, the school he led to its first UAAP basketball title in 1986, along with Ronnie Magsanoc and Eric Altamirano.

Yeng Guiao, Red Bull coach, is also in the UP lineup of the tournament which has Globe and Shell Aviation, Fuels and Asphalt as sponsors.

A brief opening ceremony, with Francisco 'Pancho' Pasicolan, president of Filoil, welcoming the participants, Fr. Vic Calvo, Letran athletic moderator, delivering the invocation, and San Juan Mayor JV Ejercito tossing the ceremonial ball, will precede the opening alumni and high school games pitting Letran and De La Salle and Ateneo versus San Beda College.

Supported by Sunbolt, Immuvit, Accel, Gerrys Grille, Bank of Commerce, Banco de Oro, Security Bank, X-24, Millennium Plans, PBCom and Solar Sports, the weekend tourney, worth P80,000 to the champion and P40,000 to the runnerup, has former La Salle coach Virgil Villavicencio as commissioner, Anthony Suntay as project head, and David Dualan as league chairman.
